KIA Stinger nació como un modelo conceptual en 2011 bajo el nombre de KIA GT, mostrando sus líneas atrevidas en el Salón del Automóvil de Frankfurt. El diseño realizado por Peter Schreyer y Gregory Guillaume evolucionó y se presentó oficialmente en el NAIAS de 2014 con una intensión clara: ser un competidor de los sedanes deportivos y declarar un lenguaje de diseño futuro para KIA.
KIA Stinger es modelo realmente especial, no sólo por el diseño y sus diferencias con el resto de la gama, sino porque es el más potente y su desarrollo ha sido cuidado en cada punto. El diseño fue realizado en Frankfurt con un enfoque de manejo europeo, y la puesta a punto del chasis y motor se realizó en el mítico trazo de Nürburgring. Por ello se encuentra a la par de los sedanes alemanes, pero con líneas propias y una comodidad que ha logrado aportar KIA con los elementos de infoentretenimiento.

En cuanto a diseño, el Stinger te presume una silueta Fastback, es decir, una caída del techo a la parte trasera en una sola pieza, algo que da una visión dinámica, que termina en un gran trabajo de integración con la cajuela, las luces y en la parte baja un difusor que aloja un par de escapes gemelos en cada lado. La parte frontal evoca la nariz de un tigre, que se aprecia en la parrilla y tapa del motor. En la parte baja encontramos las tomas de aire con molduras negras que le dan un aspecto flotante a la carrocería. El juego de faros led complementa la mirada felina del modelo.

Este gran turismo llega con dos motorizaciones, dos litros de cuatro cilindros que desarrollan 250 hp. Pero la estrella y el buque insignia de la marca es el Stinger GT con motor V6 TwinTurbo de 3.3 litros que desarrolla 365 hp y un torque de 376 lb-pie. La caja de cambios es automática de 8 velocidades y cuenta con cinco modos de manejo que te permitirán circular tranquilamente por la ciudad o en carretera.

KIA Stinger GT fue la versión que tuvo mayor desarrollo en el “infierno verde” del Nürburgring alemán, una pista de poco más de 22 kilómetros de longitud, con largas rectas, curvas rápidas y lentas, desniveles… una verdadera prueba de funcionalidad que se realizó para que tengas en las manos un Stinger con el que puedas ir a una importante cita de negocios o hacer latir al corazón en un track day.
